Each year, in communities all across the United States, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention conducts Out of the Darkness Community Walks to raise awareness – and funds – for suicide prevention.
The Saturday before Thanksgiving is the Annual International Survivors of Suicide Day. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention holds a webcast and satellite teleconference that has touched many over the years.
“The first full week in October is set aside as national Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in the United States. Began by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1990, MIAW recognizes the efforts of the National Alliance on Mental Illness to help raise awareness of these conditions.
