“The first full week in October is set aside as national Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in the United States. ¬†Began by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1990, MIAW recognizes the efforts of the National Alliance on Mental Illness to help raise awareness of these conditions. ¬†Also known more commonly today as Mental Health Awareness Week, more information about it and the various events surrounding this observance may be found here.
