“The first full week in October is set aside as national Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) in the United States.  Began by an act of the U.S. Congress in 1990, MIAW recognizes the efforts of the National Alliance on Mental Illness to help raise awareness of these conditions.  Also known more commonly today as Mental Health Awareness Week, more information about it and the various events surrounding this observance may be found at http://www.mentalhealthamerica.net/MIAW
